Gjirokaster or Silver Castle is one of the most venerable towns of Albania, which recently was inscripted on the World Heritage List. The distinctive local style of the houses and their stony roofs earned the city the name “Town of Stones”. The fortress located in a strategic position overlooks the entire river valley.

Gjirokaster is located on the slopes of Mali I Gjere (Wide Mountain) surrounded by low hills and valleys.
